My cousin Sana’s mehndi is in November, and the whole khandaan has been in crisis mode since the date was fixed. Ammi asked me to find her a yellow mehndi dress. Easy, I thought. I opened a brand site, clicked on the mehndi collection, and saw a price that made me put the phone face down on the bed. Phir se dekha. Still the same price.
So I did it properly. I went through the complete catalogues of 19 Pakistani brands and pulled out every formal outfit you can actually order today: 4,406 of them. Then I sorted them by the colours a mehndi dress is supposed to be. Here is what a normal person should buy, and why the mehndi collection is the wrong place to look.
Why the Mehndi Collection Is the Wrong Shelf
Most brands do not label anything for mehndi at all. The one that does it clearly is Maria B, which tags a group of formals for mehndi and mayun. There are 80 of those in stock, at a typical Rs 285,000, and the cheapest one is Rs 24,990. Only 3 are on sale.
Those are bridal and couture pieces, made for the bride and maybe her sister. For everybody else, the smart move is to ignore the word mehndi completely and shop by colour, because the regular formal range is full of perfect mehndi dress options at a fraction of the price. Yellow is the most discounted mehndi colour and lands cheapest on sale. Green is the most plentiful but the least discounted.
This is the part that made me laugh. Yellow, the most classic mehndi dress colour of all, is the colour most likely to be on sale. 59 percent of the yellow formal outfits in stock are discounted, more than any other colour, and the typical sale price is Rs 6,294. Orange has the deepest typical cut at 43 percent.
Green is the opposite. There is plenty of it, 339 outfits, but only 44 percent are on sale. If your heart is set on an emerald mehndi dress, expect to pay closer to full price. Aur agar peela chalega, to paisay bachao.

Look at the gap between “starts from” and “typical” on the gharara row. The typical gharara is a designer piece at Rs 32,193, but the cheapest ones start under Rs 2,000. A gharara in yellow is basically the official mehndi dress uniform, so if you can find one in your budget, grab it. Lehengas are the one to skip: the typical one costs Rs 250,000 and is built for a bride, not for bhangra.
