Farshi Shalwar 2026: The Eid Hit With Only 100 Pieces in Stock, and How to Get the Look
Last Eid, my cousin Aleena walked in wearing a farshi shalwar with a tiny short kurta, and before the sheer khurma was served, three khalas had asked for her darzi’s number. Mera bhi dil aa gaya. So I opened brand site after brand site and typed farshi shalwar. Kuch nahi mila. Well, almost nothing.
So I checked properly: every one of the 28,039 adult garments in stock at 19 Pakistani brands. Exactly 100 are farshi. The trend is real, the stock is tiny, and that changes how you should buy one.
Why Everyone Wanted a Farshi Shalwar
A farshi shalwar is the extra wide shalwar that falls to the floor. Farsh means floor, so the name is a promise. In March, The Express Tribune said “the revival of the Farshi Shalwar dominated the festive season” at Eid 2025, and Dawn called it “most in demand around Eid”. By May, the Tribune saw Eid ul Azha wear shifting “towards dhoti-inspired drapes”.
Shoppers have not moved on. Google Pakistan still suggests farshi shalwar “with short shirt” and “ready to wear”. Sab ko wohi look chahiye, ready made. Chalo, let’s check the shelves.
How Many Farshi Shalwar Pieces Are Really in Stock
Just 100 of 28,039 garments in stock are farshi, about one in 280. Only 6 of the 19 brands have any, and two of them hold 93.

Read from product titles, types and tags on 17 September 2026. Almirah’s 3 and Zeen’s 1 new pieces are older stock re-published. One Almirah piece is menswear. Khaadi and Sapphire could not be checked.
Brands have listed 511 farshi pieces, and 411 can no longer be ordered. Farshi dhoondne nikli thi, sold out ki list mil gayi.
Yaad rakhne wali baat
Only 22 of the 100 say farshi in the product name. Almirah mostly names its sets by colour, fabric and “2Pc” or “3Pc Stitched”, with farshi hidden in the tags, so browse its stitched sets instead of searching.
Who Is Still Launching the Farshi Shalwar
On paper, 40 farshi pieces have arrived since 15 July. But brands re-publish old stock, which makes it look new, and 4 of those 40 were made earlier: three Almirah sets from May and June and a Zeen suit from December 2025. Take them out and 36 are truly new, all from Generation.

Nearly one in six pieces Generation has made since July is farshi. The other 18 brands have not made one since 29 June, and farshi’s share of new stock beat older stock at only 2 brands, against 4 where it fell. Sach mein, it is one brand’s trend now.

Women’s pieces. Prices leave out Generation, so they rest on 6 shalwars, 17 two piece and 31 Almirah three piece sets. Small groups, so treat them as a guide.
A farshi shalwar on its own costs a typical Rs 2,990, and J. Junaid Jamshed has four in white, off white, beige and black lawn. Add a short kurta you already own and the look costs under Rs 3,000. Hisaab theek.
Sale? Bhool jao. Only 2 of 54 priced pieces are marked down: Beechtree’s farshi at Rs 2,574, from Rs 4,290, and a Sana Safinaz two piece at Rs 8,079, from Rs 10,099. Compare that with about half of all new season clothing.
The fabrics are soft: lawn on 32 pieces, cambric on 29, silk or raw silk on 18 and cotton on 16. Good, because soft fabric falls in folds while stiff fabric puffs out like a tent.
Ready Made or Your Own Darzi?
All 100 pieces are sold stitched, in sizes. None come unstitched, even though 40.5 percent of new season clothing is unstitched, up from 28.8 percent of older stock. Ready made is quicker, and two piece sets start at Rs 4,850. Tailoring gets you any colour and a kurta cut your way, starting from a typical Rs 4,699 unstitched suit plus the darzi’s bill. And that bill is climbing: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics figures show city tailoring prices up 12.93 percent in a year, against 4.96 percent for ready made garments.
What to Tell Your Darzi
How many metres? Honestly, it depends on your height, the width you want and how your darzi cuts, so I will not guess. Ask him instead.
- Ask how much cloth he needs before you buy. A farshi takes far more than a straight trouser, so an unstitched suit’s trouser piece may fall short.
- Wear your shoes to the fitting, so the hem just brushes the floor.
- Choose soft lawn or cambric, the brand favourites.
- Pick elastic or a nara. Elastic handles the gathers, a nara sits flatter.
- Ask for a pocket. Your phone needs a home.
- Show a picture with your short kurta, so both match.
How to Wear a Farshi Shalwar With a Short Shirt
A short shirt shows off all that width, and a long one hides it. Only 23 pieces are labelled short, all at Generation, and Almirah does not label length at all. So you will probably style your own.
- Length: the kurta ends around the hip or upper thigh.
- Balance: wide below, neat and straight on top.
- Colour: plain farshi, printed kurta. Or tone on tone, “double shades of the same colour”, as Dawn put it.
- Dupatta: light, over one shoulder.
- Shoes: khussas or a low block heel, nothing that catches the hem.
Skip it on a rainy day. A floor length hem and a wet road are not friends, meri jaan.

So what is everyone else betting on? New season against older stock, menswear left out:

New season: published since 15 July, 7,909 pieces. Truly new: also created since then, 3,559. Older: 15,953. Brands with 20 or more pieces in both groups. With men’s kameez shalwar included, new season shalwar pieces total 656.
The plain shalwar is the quiet winner: up at 10 brands, down at 5, with Sana Safinaz stocking the most new ones, 77. At a typical Rs 3,490 outside Generation, it undercuts trousers and culottes too. Trousers still rule, but more brands cut back. Straight pants look busy only because Gul Ahmed has 48 of the 59, nearly all on sale, at a typical Rs 1,134. And the dhoti drape? Not one of 92,675 garments listed mentions it. Ramp pe hai, rack pe abhi nahi.

Length is everything on a farshi. Most Pakistani brands will not take back sale items, and with this little stock a second size may not exist. Check the size chart first. The returns table is below.

The Bottom Line on the Farshi Shalwar
The farshi shalwar was the look of Eid, but the shelves never filled up: 100 pieces across 19 brands, 93 at Almirah and Generation, almost none on sale, and only Generation still launching.
So buy smart: a Rs 2,990 farshi with your favourite short kurta, a two piece set if your size is there, or soft lawn and a clear picture for your darzi. Aleena’s darzi has a waiting list now. Mera number agla hai. Bas, dua karo.
How we checked: We read the full public catalogues of 19 Pakistani brands on 17 September 2026 and kept 92,675 adult garments, 28,039 of them in stock, meaning at least one size can be ordered. A piece counts as farshi when the word is in its title, product type or tags. New season means published since 15 July 2026. Re-publishing old stock resets that date, so a truly new piece must also have been created since then. Typical price is the median, and on sale means the compare at price is above the selling price. Generation is left out of price and sale figures because its feed prices cannot be used in rupees. Khaadi and Sapphire publish no readable product feed. Prices change, so check the product page before you buy. The launch chart uses the creation dates of pieces still listed.
